Detroit Pistons vs. Charlotte Hornets Pick & Prediction NOVEMBER 6th 2024
Preview and Prediction
After clinching their first home victory in four attempts this season, the Detroit Pistons hit the road in search of their third consecutive win in Wednesday night's matchup against the host Charlotte Hornets.
Following their 106-92 triumph over Brooklyn on Sunday, the Pistons continued their winning streak with a 115-103 home victory against the Los Angeles Lakers on Monday night.
According to Pistons coach J.B. Bickerstaff, the key to their success on Monday was simple: limiting turnovers. Bickerstaff stated, "We've had some difficulties with that. We took care of the basketball."
Jaden Ivey's season-high 26 points led the Pistons to their third win in four games. Ivey shot an impressive 10 of 16 from the field and was one of six Detroit players to score in double figures against the Lakers.
Bickerstaff praised Ivey's confidence, stating, "With confidence, incredible things can happen. We believe that (Ivey) is playing with an immense amount of confidence. He's attacking, playing in positions of strength. He's determined to make this work and is doing whatever it takes to help the team win."
Bickerstaff also commended the team's patience, particularly in the fourth quarter. He said, "Understanding each possession and what we needed to do in the moment. Taking care of the basketball and not giving the Lakers extra opportunities. We have players who are capable of creating shots for each other."
In every game this season, either Ivey or fellow guard Cade Cunningham has been the Pistons' top scorer. Monday marked the third time Ivey finished as the leading scorer. Cunningham also had a standout performance, recording his third career triple-double with 17 points, 11 rebounds, and 11 assists.
The Hornets had been competitive in their first six games, but they struggled in the middle two quarters of Monday night's 114-93 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves.
The Timberwolves outscored the Hornets 67-47 in the second and third quarters, resulting in Charlotte's third consecutive loss.
Despite the Hornets' recent struggles, guard LaMelo Ball continues to impress with his scoring. Ball has recorded four 30-point games and currently has the seventh-highest scoring average in the NBA (28.6 points per game). He has been the leading scorer for the Hornets in six out of their seven games.
Charlotte coach Charles Lee praised Ball's approach to the game, stating, "He has the right mindset and has been open-minded about what we're trying to teach him on both ends of the court. We're seeing improvements on the defensive end and his offensive playmaking skills are truly remarkable."
In their loss to Minnesota, Ball scored 19 points, but no other Hornet scored more than 10. The team struggled from beyond the arc, making only 10 of their 42 3-point attempts (23.8%) and shooting 39.8% from the field overall.
The Hornets currently rank 21st in the league in scoring (111.3 points per game), and their offensive struggles can be attributed in part to Brandon Miller's injury. The second-year forward missed four games with a strained left glute before returning on Saturday.
Injuries have also plagued the Hornets in the post, with center Nick Richards missing the last two games due to right shoulder soreness.
